Sacred Texts
The Hebrew Bible is divided into three parts, 5 books of the Torah or Pentateuch, 21 books of prophets and 13 books of writings. The collective name for the prophets and writings is the Tanakh. The Torah and Tanakh combined create the old testament in the Christian Bible although Judaism does not acknowledge the new testament.
The Torah includes the story of creation, early history of Jews and their relationship with God and many laws for Jewish behaviours, ceremonies and social life.
The Talmud and Midrash are other sacred texts which are comprised of rabbinical interpretations ad commentaries on the Torah. Modern branches of the Jewish religion have different interpretations of the originals texts and differ in relevance.
