Places of Worship
A Jewish “church” has three names: a synagogue, shul or temple. The temple is the Jewish place of worship. It is also used as the central place of study, prayer, social and charitable work and for communal gatherings. The leader of the temple is known as a rabbi. Services of worship are held on Friday evening or Saturday morning as the Holy day of the week begins at sunset on Friday and concludes at sundown on Saturday. This time is known as the Sabbath.
In ancient times, the temple was where people made sacrifices to God.
